Also it so happens that in 2023 Halley's Comet reaches its aphelion-- it's gone as far as it goes, and it's going to start heading our way again.

I've been digging further into this, and there seems to be an error somewhere. Everyone lists 15 May 1758 as Taylor's date of birth, citing various biographies. However, Taylor himself stated on his deathbed (during the comet's reappearance) that he was also born under the comet, which would have been 15 May 1759. The biographies I have to hand state both facts with no attempt to reconcile them.
