The Chaldean Oracles assert that terrestrial daimons dwell in the soul which is replete with irrational affections:

δὸν δὲ γὰρ ἀγγεῖον θῆρες χθονὸς οἰκήσουσιν.
For the wild beasts of the earth shall inhabit thy vessel.
