But you know, I think it's something more than that, too, since the mind does not survive death. But we need the physical effort to train the mind's patterns, and then we need the repeated mental effort to train the soul's patterns. So it takes a lot of scaffolding to build those mental patterns only for the scaffolding to get taken away again; but then it takes an order of magnitude more scaffolding to build up those psychic patterns only for the scaffolding to get taken away. I think a way to look at this, perhaps, is that it takes a lifetime to master a mental process, but it takes many lifetimes to master a psychic process.

I guess you can take this as a periodic reminder of the lesser and greater mysteries that you asked for—the lesser mysteries are that which train the mind from the body, while the greater mysteries are that which train the soul from the mind.
