Oof, that's a good and distressing question. In the framework I was talking about here, can one de-pattern their individual soul such that it's less coherent in the afterlife state? That is, can one effectively de-soul themselves? Yikes.

I'm not sure if that would be the outcome of atheism—certainly all of the atheists I have met are strong-willed people, if misguidedly so, which calls to mind how Plotinus says that even wickedness has good in it—but certainly distancing oneself from the divine can't possibly lead anywhere I would want to go...
