Perhaps the frustration of being unable to express the inexpressible is a part of the state change as we find our way up the planes of existence. I have dreams like this sometimes, that are complete images of interrelationships, expressed in moments. Unpacking them into language generally results in loss of much of the content, but stories help us get some kind of handle on the experience. Perhaps, like Dion Fortune said, these things are meant to 'train the mind, not to inform it.' I once heard of heaven described as a relationship between a man and a caterpillar: A man once befriended a caterpillar, because it was a caterpillar with more insight and wisdom than all the other caterpillars, by a wide margin. One day, the man told the caterpillar, "I have decided that tomorrow, I am going to make you into a man! We will talk face to face about love and politics while eating potato chips, and I will take you with me to work as my apprentice! I will set up a bank account for you so you can buy clothes, and an email address with a laptop so you can surf the internet!..." For his part, the caterpillar understood that his human friend was going to do him a great kindness, for he was surpassingly wise. In his mind, the man's words painted him a picture. He was munching his way through a larger, juicier green leaf than any other caterpillar had ever seen. He could hardly wait until tomorrow! We do the best we can ;-)
