Plato seems pretty obsessed with reason to the exclusion of all else, but Plotinus had a lot to say on how both reason and desire are necessary components to the soul's life and how they both need to be exercised in their proper spheres, and it's plausible that Apuleius thought similarly. It'd be worthwhile to explore the myth from that angle!
