Light is to fire, as fire is to air, as air is to water, as water is to earth.

That is to say, fire is but a pale reflection of light, air is but a pale reflection of fire, water is but a pale reflection of air, and earth is but a pale reflection of water. Hence minerals rest, plants grow, animals move, men imagine, and souls live.
