I think "Mind" could possibly work, but it's again in a specific, technical sense. Some of the best distinctions I have seen were in the works of St. Maximus (and this has to be qualified, because it's not clear to me that he's using it in an identical way to Plotinus, Proclus, et al., though presumably his usage derived and developed from that tradition). He distinguishes the "nous"/intellect as a faculty by which one can apprehend divine realities, as distinct from the faculties we use to discern sensible (material) things (I'm paraphrasing, and poorly at that.) The glossary to the Philokalia has a better definition. In the end, maybe just old "Nous" would be the best for everyone involved, so long as we're not talking French. :)

Sorry to hear about the distress caused to you by Christian works; untold numbers have been, I suspect, damaged by the institutional church and the excesses of the various sects. Of course, I would abide by the direction of your guardian angel in all these things.
