As an asterisk to myself, "Beauty itself," here, is not the Good, but the thing immediately below the Good, which MacKenna calls "the Intellectual-Principle" and which I have seen elsewhere called Nous, "Intellect" or "Consciousness."

Why? Well, Beauty is the ideal of Form, but the Good is formless. The very first thing that has Form must be, then, the definition of the ideal of Form.
