This mirrors my own experience: the Gods bestow gifts not as a present, with expectation of return, but simply because those gifts are their natural expression and in some sense cannot be helped. You take the "good" with the "bad" when you align yourself with a divine influence.

In fact, I think this is a helpful "sanity check" on whether you're really getting in touch with the being you think you are...
