I'm with you on the translation of ἀρήϊοι Areioi. I figured that either way I'd need an explanatory footnote (clarifying that, since Ares is generally the god of wanton destruction in Homer, that devotion to him would surely involve collateral damage!), and "devoted to Ares" would make the line overly long. (Though, I'll grant that a lot of the other lines are overly long, too!) I just don't think there's any way to translate some things well!
