Agree. Different myths tell different stories, as different gods lead to different outcomes, although, as you note, there does seem to be resonance among various myths.

One of the reasons, I suspect, the Christian age preserved the Iliad and the Odyssey, almost as a pair, is that they sound the theme of exile and return—there and back again—which echoes the major theme of Christianity.
