I just realized that I've been wondering about this for a year and a half, before ever looking at the Horos-myth.

I wonder if Thomas Taylor's three categories of souls are A) those who are native to Air but came to Earth to teach (an Osiris-as-a-jackal?), B) those who are native to Earth and have developed an individual soul (a Horos), and C) those who are only group-souled (Isis yet wandering).
