I know this isn't at all a mystical text, but I recently started reading the entirety of Herodotus's Histories. I have to constantly remind myself that this is a mere translation I'm reading. Having said that, I'm reading it as a polytheist, and this has been quite an experience thus far! I think I am able to read these works with a rather unique perspective compared to most other modern Westerners who read it through a purely secular (or monotheist) lens; I can see that it's the oracles that serve as the focal point of many of his accounts, a detail most other readers might totally miss or simply ignore.
